Health care services in the United States are largely paid for by third party payors, including insurance companies, managed care organizations and employers. Accordingly, physicians routinely deal with third party payors on a variety of issues affecting the quality of care delivered to patients as well as administrative issues affecting their practices. The mission of the Committee on Third Party Payors is to serve as a liaison between the members of the New Haven County Medical Association and the third party payors and employers with respect to issues relating to the practice of medicine. In carrying out its responsibilities the Committee shall (1) gather information and evaluate problems or concerns raised by members and their patients with respect to third party payors, (2) meet with representatives of third party payors and employers to resolve generic problems affecting physicians and their patients, and (3) consult with regulatory officials on issues associated with third party payors. The Committee shall also assist individual members of
the Association in the resolution of non-fee related disputes with third party payors.
Finally, the Committee shall undertake to educate members of the Association with respect
to issues involving third party payors and to provide information of general interest to
the members regarding third party payors.
