Promoting Preventive Services for Adults 50-64:
Community and Clinical Partnerships

A new report will be released this Thursday, 11/19/2009. It will turn a spotlight on state-by-state provision of preventive services to adults age 50 to 64 years old.

The Aging and Long-term Care Strategic Initiative Team within the Division of Science, Medicine, and Public Health at the AMA in collaboration with AARP, CDC, and other key partners investigated the uptake of critical preventive services for adults aged 50 to 64 on a state-by-state and national level.  The results of this study are summarized in the landmark report, Promoting Preventive Services for Adults 50-64: Community and Clinical Partnerships .   The report was released at the Gerontological Society of America Annual Conference,  November 19th held in Atlanta, Georgia  and can be viewed at  www.ama-assn.org/go/aging .

The AMA believes this report highlights the unique position for medical societies to become the driving force of change in the usage of preventive services among the middle aged.  The attached materials aim to familiarize medical societies with the report as well as prepare medical societies for the anticipated media attention.

It is our hope that the contents of this report serves as a catalyst for medical societies in collaboration with the AMA and the community to help doctors help patients.
